Procter & Gamble has announced plans for a $500 million manufacturing plant in West Virginia. This will be only its second new site in the United States since 1971.

The plant will be located in Berkeley County, near the town of Tabler Station. It will spread over more than 1 million square feet and employ 700 full-time workers.

Set to open in 2017, the plant will be able to supply products to 80% of the East Coast within one day.

So far, the company has not disclosed which brands would be manufactured at the West Virginia location.

“This investment is about the future of P&G’s entire supply chain, from sourcing raw materials to production and distribution,” said Yannis Skoufalos, global product supply officer for P&G. “This will enable us to rapidly and efficiently serve retail customers and consumers throughout the eastern half of the United States.”
